Mandala, a circle that is a device for the Tantric meditation. It is visual aid for concentration and introversive meditation leading to the attainment of insights and to activation of forces culminating in “Siddhi”, supernatural forces. The mandala is the graphic representation of this process. It is not only theoretical but practical also as an instrument (yantra). There are many types and varieties of mandalas depending on the nature of central deity. The most classic pattern of mandalas are of Dhyani Buddha. This mandala represents “Palace of Purity” a magic surrounded by circle of flame, vajra, eight centuries (appears only with wrathful deities), lotus and then the inner square to reach of the dity of the mandala. Structure: Generally, mandala is sketched inside circles. Those circles are of four types: Flame of burning fire, Cremation, Wind and Lotus flower (sometimes vajara in the case of wind). The flame of burning fire is the sign of the destroyer of impurity and unknowledge contained in us. After the circle of cremation, there’s a circle of Vajra, is the sign of knowledge or enlighten and no difficulties or problems can shake the knowledge. After crossing these four circles a square room appears which is the sign of the spiritual temple.
In Hinduism and Buddhism, the belief is that by entering the mandala and proceeding towards its center, you are guided through the cosmic process of transforming the universe from one of suffering into one of joy and happiness.
